In designing StarOffice
5.2 software, the StarOffice team focused on enhancing core areas
such as ease-of-use, performance, and seamless interoperability
with Microsoft Office 97/2000. Highlights of these enhancements
include:
- Improved import
and export filters: Communicate with users of other popular
office suites. New and improved import and export formats (StarOffice
Schedule) and document filters (StarOffice Writer, Calc, Impress,
and Base) guarantee a seamless exchange of information with Microsoft
Office 97/2000.
- Extensive online
help and written documentation: Here is where you will find
the answers to all of your usage questions.
- StarOffice Player
and saving options for presentations: Now you can deliver
your presentations on the road or on the Web. The new, standalone
StarOffice Player enables you to show StarOffice Impress presentations
anywhere, anytime without installing the entire StarOffice suite.
New export and saving options make it easy to show your presentation
over the Web or save it as a compressed version for easy transport.
- Enhanced database
functionality and user interface: An easier way to create
and manage a database. StarOffice Base 5.2 integrates the Adabas
D Database, providing an easier-to-use interface that enables
you to import and export HTML and RTF formats.
- Enhanced multilingual
support:
Removes international language barriers by providing tools to
check spelling, add hyphenation, and choose synonyms in up to
twenty languages simultaneously.
- Enhanced Open and
Save As dialog boxes: Manage and navigate your files and folders
with ease. New features improve your file management options and
streamline data navigation.
- Hyperlink dialog
box: Share information more effectively. The new Hyperlink
dialog box makes it easy to define and insert links to Web pages,
other Internet URLs, and documents on your local system or network
server.
- Improved and extended
layout and formatting options for text documents: It's a snap
to create professionally designed documents with StarOffice Writer
5.2 software. It features new layout and formatting options for
sections (including multicolumn layouts complete with footnotes
and endnotes), AutoText entries, table alignments, and border
distances.
- Index dialog box:
Increase the usefulness of your long, complex documents. StarOffice
Writer 5.2 software features a new uniform dialog for indexes
and reference tables that simplifies generating a table of contents
or indexing terms, bibliographical references, illustrations,
tables, and other objects.
- Enhanced font name
list boxes: Select the font you want, quickly and easily.
The Font Name list box on the object toolbar now shows your most
recently used fonts at the top of the list. In addition, you can
configure all list boxes that show font names to display a WYSIWYG
view of the installed fonts.
